Llanwnnen
The church at Llanwnnen is located on an elevated site, overlooking the River Grannell. The Grade ll listed church is largely medieval. The nave is considered to be twelfth century and the chancel is probably thirteenth or fourteenth century.
The dedication of the church is now to St Lucia, although there is considerable uncertainty about the original dedication of the church, which may have previously been dedicated to a saint named Gwynen.

The church was restored in 1877 by the accomplished architect, R.J. Withers, who was responsible for various ecclesiastical works in the area, notably the rebuilding of nearby St Peter’s church, Lampeter.
The tower is of fifteenth-century appearance, but is a nineteenth-century addition. The pleasant interior contains a three-light stained glass east window of around 1931 depicting the Resurrection. A medieval stoup is found at the church as well as a shield decorated with the arms of Sir Rhys ap Thomas (1449–1525) a notable supporter of Henry Vll. Over the exterior of the west door is an eroded fifteenth-century plaque of a female figure.
The earliest evidence for the dedication of the church suggests that the patron was St Lucia, presumably St Lucy of Syracuse, a victim of the Diocletian persecution and one of the more famous western church virgin martyrs. Her feast day was the same date that was given for the feast day of the parish in eighteenth and early nineteenth century sources.
Llannwnnen was a centre of Unitarianism in the early nineteenth century, with the Tractarians describing the area as y spotyn du (the black spot), a description the Unitarians wore as a badge of honour.
